Bowling with Dad

It was a great event to see all the dad’s cheering on their kids as they knocked down pin after pin. Wengers Bowling on the west side did a fantastic job of accommodating the group from the GSPC and Westside Collaborative on Friday, March 15th. There were many times during the night that dads would look at each other and give that little nod saying, “this is what it’s all about”. Seeing the kids smile and laugh, encouraging each other on them tricky 4/10 splits, and seeing dad give instructions about how to face the obstacle before them. Time and again I heard from dads that this was the first time they had taken their kids bowling and now they could check it off their to-do list.

There were men there who had seen the event advertised on Facebook, Church Bulletin’s, Basecamp and different networks. It shows that when organizations work together for the greater good it’s the fathers and children who reap the benefits.

I know fathers want to be involved in their children’s lives. They need to feel comfortable, included, and know there is no judgment. To children it doesn’t matter if their dad is residing in the home or not, they are happy that they got to go out with dad and have fun!!
